The ocean bed is full of treasure and during 1972-76 it was enormous in the region. As the area became more attractive for tourist, the outsiders began exporting this treasure to outer world and Govt. of India did impose ban on exploring the treasure for business purposes.
The unique artifacts are affectionate for me as I have collected them live from sea bed from a depth of 30-100 feet (snorkeling and scuba diving) while my stay over there during 1972-1976.
These seashells have been used as musical instruments, wind instruments for many hundreds if not thousands of years. Most often the shells of large sea snails are used, as trumpets, artifacts, table lamps, flower vase, ash treys, crockery, cutlery, ornaments, fashion articles, bangles, by cutting, grinding, polishing and bringing into desired shape and size.. Various different kinds of large marine gastropod shells can be turned into blowing shells.
Seashells have played a part in religion and spirituality, sometimes even as ritual objects.
Because seashells are in some areas a readily available bulk source of calcium carbonate, shells such as oyster shells are sometimes used as soil conditioners in horticulture. The shells are broken or ground into small pieces in order to have the desired effect increasing the calcium content in the soil.
Seashells have been admired, studied and used by humans for many different purposes throughout history and pre-history. ************
